The Lightspeed integration brings your Lightspeed sales into Shyfter, so revenue and hours worked can be compared shift by shift. Depending on your installation, you connect through the Lightspeed K-Series API or through the daily email report.
Lightspeed is used by many restaurants to run service. Shyfter is where you plan and track the hours of the team behind that service. Putting both on the same screen turns two separate tools into one clear picture of how well each shift was staffed. This page explains the two connection modes, the data each one brings and how to set them up.
What Lightspeed is and who uses it
Lightspeed is a point of sale platform. Its K-Series product is a restaurant POS used to take orders, manage tables and close the till. Because every ticket goes through it, Lightspeed holds the most accurate record of what each service sold.
Shyfter is the workforce management software for shift-based teams: scheduling, time tracking and payroll preparation in one place. Connecting Lightspeed adds revenue to the hours Shyfter already knows.
Why connect Lightspeed to your staff scheduling
Staffing decisions are made every week, often under pressure. Without sales data next to the hours, it is hard to know whether a shift was too heavy or too light. Many managers end up exporting reports from the POS and pasting them into a spreadsheet, which takes time and rarely happens every week.
Once Lightspeed is connected, you can see:
- revenue compared with hours worked for each shift;
- the services where the team is regularly too large or too small;
- differences in productivity between locations or departments;
- the impact of a schedule change on the following weeks.
How the Lightspeed integration works
Shyfter offers two ways to connect Lightspeed. In both cases, data flows from Lightspeed to Shyfter only.
Mode 1: Lightspeed K-Series through the API
This is the recommended mode for Lightspeed K-Series.
- Sales, tickets and revenue are retrieved from Lightspeed through the API.
- Each Lightspeed location is mapped to a Shyfter department.
- Per shift breakdown of sales versus hours worked.
- Indicators are available in Insights and Smart Analytics.
- History is imported at the first sync.
Mode 2: email export
This mode is for Lightspeed installations without the API.
- Lightspeed sends its daily report by email.
- You forward that report to the dedicated address of your Shyfter account.
- Shyfter extracts the revenue and the ticket count into Insights.
The email export is recommended only when the API integration is not available. If you are not sure which mode applies to your installation, contact Shyfter support before you start.

Use cases by industry
Restaurants and bars
In restaurants and bars, Lightspeed K-Series sales per shift show which services justify a full team and which ones do not. You build the next schedule on what each lunch and dinner service actually sold.
Hotels
Hotels with a restaurant or bar can map each Lightspeed location to its own department. Each outlet manager follows the productivity of their own team, and management keeps the overall view across outlets.
Catering
For catering businesses that also run a restaurant or a counter, the integration separates the revenue of each location. It helps you see where your hours bring the most return.
From revenue to better schedules
With Lightspeed connected, revenue and hours meet in Shyfter. The validated hours then move on to payroll preparation at the end of the month, with no retyping. Lightspeed is one of many tools Shyfter works with: see the full list of integrations.

The easiest way to choose between the API and the email export is to talk it through with us. Request a demo and a Shyfter specialist will show you how Lightspeed and Shyfter work together for your venues.
Frequently asked questions
Which Lightspeed connection mode should I choose?
Choose the API integration if you use Lightspeed K-Series. The email export is meant for Lightspeed installations without the API, and you can contact Shyfter support if you are unsure.
What data does the K-Series API integration retrieve?
It retrieves sales, tickets and revenue from Lightspeed K-Series. Each Lightspeed location is mapped to a Shyfter department and your history is imported at the first sync.
How does the email export work?
Lightspeed sends its daily report by email and you forward it to the dedicated address of your Shyfter account. Shyfter then extracts the revenue and the ticket count into Insights.
Where do I see sales versus hours worked?
With the API integration, the per shift comparison and the productivity indicators are available in Insights and Smart Analytics.
Do I have to change my Lightspeed setup?
No. You keep using Lightspeed as your POS. Shyfter only reads the sales data it needs.
