In Belgium, Shyfter sends automatic Dimona declarations to the NSSO (ONSS), straight from your schedule, your time clock or the employment contract. You stay compliant without logging in to the social security portal for every new shift.
Every employer in Belgium must declare the start and end of employment to the National Social Security Office (NSSO, known as ONSS in French and RSZ in Dutch) through the Dimona declaration. For businesses that work with students, flexi-jobs and extras, that means many declarations every week. This page explains how Shyfter connects to the NSSO, what it declares and how to set it up.
What the NSSO is and who it concerns
The NSSO is the Belgian National Social Security Office. It collects social security contributions and receives the Dimona declarations of every employer in Belgium. The Dimona tells the NSSO who works for you and when.
This page concerns companies that employ staff in Belgium. Shyfter, the workforce management software founded in Belgium in 2019, sends Dimona declarations for its Belgian customers. If you employ staff in France, the equivalent is the DPAE, covered on the URSSAF page.
Why automate your Dimona declarations
Declaring by hand is slow and easy to forget. A student added to Saturday's schedule on Friday night, an extra called in during a rush, a shift that ends two hours late: each of these needs a correct Dimona. A missed or incorrect declaration is a compliance risk you can avoid.
Shyfter removes that manual step. Declarations follow your schedule, your time clock and your contracts, so the information you already enter for your team is the information sent to the NSSO.
How automatic Dimona declarations work
Shyfter offers three ways to declare, on one platform.
Dimona from the schedule
Publish a shift and the Dimona is created automatically within the hour. This suits students, flexi-jobs and extras planned in advance. You set the mode and the worker type (STU, FLX) once in the employee profile, and Shyfter handles the rest.
Dimona at clock-in
As soon as an employee clocks in on the time clock, Shyfter checks and sends the declaration in real time. Nothing is forgotten, even without a planned shift.
Manual or contract-based Dimona
You can create, modify or cancel a Dimona manually for any type of worker: permanent, fixed-term, student, flexi-job or extra. Shyfter can also generate the Dimona from the employment contract stored in the platform: hours, dates and the type of work are prefilled and you only need to confirm. This keeps the signed contract and the declaration consistent and reduces typing errors.
Adjustments and daily Dimona
- End of shift adjustments: end times and the number of hours of the quota can be updated after service, so declarations match the hours actually worked.
- Daily Dimona for joint committee 302: for hospitality employers, Shyfter synchronizes the actual hours of the previous day automatically. This removes daily manual updates for full-time staff and gives access to reductions of employer contributions.
- Acknowledgment of receipt: you receive the NSSO acknowledgment directly in the interface.
- Several sites: declarations are centralized per establishment unit or company number.
Set up Dimona declarations, step by step
- Add the Dimona option to your Belgian Shyfter account (an add-on option available with any plan).
- In each employee profile, choose the declaration mode and the worker type (for example STU or FLX).
- Publish your schedules as usual: Dimona from the schedule is created within the hour.
- Let your team clock in: Shyfter checks and declares in real time when needed.
- Adjust end times after service when a shift runs longer or shorter.
- Follow NSSO acknowledgments and make corrections in Shyfter when needed.
Use cases by industry
Restaurants and bars
Restaurants and bars in Belgium rely heavily on students, flexi-jobs and extras. With Dimona created from the schedule and checked at clock-in, last minute changes no longer leave gaps in your declarations.
Events
In events, teams are often assembled for one day or one weekend. Automatic declarations from the schedule let you staff an event quickly while keeping every Dimona in order.
Retail
Retail uses students on weekends and during sales periods. Declaring from the schedule and adjusting end times after closing keeps your declarations in line with the hours actually worked.
Ready to stop declaring by hand
Regulatory compliance is where Shyfter differs most from generalist scheduling tools. Request a demo and a Shyfter specialist will show you how declarations follow your schedules for your Belgian sites.
Frequently asked questions
Is Shyfter officially connected to the NSSO?
Yes. Shyfter uses the official channels of Belgian social security to send your Dimona declarations. Each submission is validated and you receive an acknowledgment of receipt in the interface.
How does the automatic Dimona at clock-in work?
When an employee clocks in on a Shyfter time clock, Shyfter checks whether a Dimona is active. If not, it can generate the declaration automatically.
Can I update a Dimona when a shift ends later than planned?
Yes. End times can be adjusted automatically or manually, so the Dimona matches the hours actually worked.
Does Shyfter handle the daily Dimona for joint committee 302?
Yes. For hospitality employers under joint committee 302, Shyfter automates the daily record of attendance by sending the actual hours of the previous day.
Can I manage Dimona declarations for several sites?
Yes. Shyfter centralizes declarations per establishment unit or company number, while giving you an overview of all your sites.
Does this apply outside Belgium?
No. Dimona is a Belgian declaration made to the NSSO. In France, Shyfter sends DPAE declarations to the URSSAF instead.
